The Ries Crater Museum
The Ries Crater Museum was set up by the town of Noerdlingen and is administrated by the Head Office of the state run "Naturwissenschaftlichen Sammlungen" in Bavaria.
The Ries Crater Museum is a geological museum that conveys a central topic: the formation of craters by impacts in general and the Ries in particular.
In the splendidly renovated medieval barn dated from 1503, the Ries phenomenon, distributed over six rooms, is described with its planetary and its terrestrial consequences.
Numerous exhibits (meteorites, rocks, fossils) describe the topic of the text panels on different levels as well as in three impressive video presentations.
In addition, guided tours are available that are individually tailored to the different groups of visitors. Moreover, study trips to quarries in the surroundig area offer an insight on the typical rocks of the Ries (appointment by arrangement).
